Why is a Cybertruck Prototype on Tesla’s Fremont Production Lines?

In a new shot posted to the r/TeslaMotors subreddit from user u/rkhan7862 we see a Cybertruck prototype at the company’s Fremont factory in Northern California.

With Gigafactory Texas currently undergoing mass construction, Tesla’s only operating facility in the United States is its Fremont plant. However, the Fremont facility isn’t supposed to house the  production of the Cybertruck, several prototypes have been presented, and the one pictured could be another to add to the list. Gigafactory Texas is expected to house the production of the electric pickup truck starting next year.

The Cybertruck was introduced in November 2019 and since, several prototypes have been spotted during events including “Jay Leno’s Garage” and at the Peterson Automotive Museum.

While the Cybertruck is expected to enter its production stage late next year, it remains unknown if the one pictured is a preexisting prototype or if the company is manufacturing another.

Production of the Dual and Tri-Motor variants of the Cybertruck will begin in late 2021 at Gigafactory Texas. Tesla CEO, Elon Musk recently revealed that the number of pre-orders for its highly anticipated all-electric Cybertruck are “gigantic” with over half a million pre-orders, but could be high as 600,000. Musk also recently stated Tesla is ‘highly likely’ to make a smaller version for Europe “down the road”
