Shaghia-based automaker, NIO announced today that it has produced today its 100,000th electric car. The milestone was reached at the JAC-NIO Hefei Advanced Manufacturing Centre in China.
It has been three years since NIO presented its first ES8 and with a pandemic smack dab in the middle of that, this is quite an impressive feat for the startup.
In addition to the ES8, the ES6 and the EC6 will join the seven-seater electric SUV on production lines at the JAC-NIO facility.
“At the roll-off ceremony, representatives of the early ES8, ES6 and EC6 users joined together to welcome the user of the 100,000th NIO car to the NIO community.
With the 100,000th production car, NIO reached another significant milestone. Moving forward, NIO will continue to build on its global-leading innovation capabilities, launch more cutting-edge smart electric vehicles and technologies, and offer users an experience that exceeds expectations.”
NIO is positioning itself to compete in the premium brand segment and according to the automaker, the average price of the 100,000 cars was RMB 428,000 (over $65,400).
This milestone comes on the heels of the automakers best selling month in March as well as is best selling quarter in Q1 2021. According to the company, in Q1 2021 they were able to deliver 7,257 EVs in China. Although it was only 37 more vehicles than its January 2021 numbers, it is an incredible 373% increase over last year.
Currently the automaker is aiming to have a single shift capacity of 150,000 units per year by the end of 2021 at the JAC-NIO manufacturing plant in Hefei, China. The automaker recently deployed 5 new battery swap stations in addition to 9 new fast-charging stations. The automaker currently has a total of 139 fast-charging stations and hope to have deployed its 500th battery swap station by the end of the year (via Moneyball):
