Production of the BMW iX3 has Officially Started

The first vehicle to utilize BMW’s next-generation electric powertrain has started production. According to a new video posted to Cars Overview YouTube channel “The first fully-electric BMW iX3 has left the production line at the BMW Brilliance Automotive joint venture (BBA) in Shenyang, China.”

The BMW iX3 concept was introduced in 2018 as the German automaker’s first electric vehicle based on its fifth-generation electric powertrain technology. The fully electric SUV is the company’s first since the launch of the i3 in 2013. BMW will produce the iX3 at its plant in China and is expected to export it to other markets.

Head of BBA’s Technology and Production division, Franz Decker, said about the announcement “Today, we begin production of the BMW iX3, the first pure electric model from our core BMW brand. With a production system like this, specialised for high quality, we are able to deliver what customers worldwide demand from premium vehicles.”

BMW has confirmed that the iX3 will come equipped with a 80-kWhbattery pack and offers a WTLP range of 286 miles. Check out the video below to see some production footage at their China factory:
