Introduced last June, the access version of the Taycan was so far only available in China. But Porsche has confirmed the launch of a new variant called “Performance” which will become the most economical alternative to take home the German electric car.
This is an exciting move that will make more customers see it possible to fit the Taycan into their budget, and which also does so by increasing the range thanks to the less complexity and weight of the all-wheel-drive system.
A Taycan that in 2021 will have to face proposals within the electric car sector like its old rival, the Tesla Model S, which will undergo a long-awaited renovation. Even with the current one, it already exceeds in autonomy and acceleration, 3.8 seconds to 62MPH in the Long Range version, and 2.5 seconds in Performance, to which will be added the more radical Plaid, which for the price of a minimally equipped Taycan 4S, will offer us an acceleration below 2.1 seconds to 62MPH and more than 520 miles of autonomy.
Not only that. Lucid Motors will also launch a proposition that could be even closer to the Porsche customer than Tesla itself. A Lucid Air that does not take prisoners in terms of the propulsion system and battery, managing to surpass the Model S in acceleration and autonomy, but offering a more modern design and an interior of apparently much higher quality than the Tesla.
Porsche will have to take into account if it does not want its Taycan to be irretrievably left behind already in its second year on the market.
