Comparing the Ford Mustang Mach-e to the Tesla Model Y

Ford has officially begun deliveries of the Mustang Mach-e in the U.S. and reservation holders are receiving emails that there vehicle is on its way. As deliveries slowly trickle out, first-drive and comparison videos are popping up highlighting the pros and cons of the all-electric SUV, sometimes against its biggest competitors.

Automotive Youtube channel, The Fast Lane Car decided to see how Ford’s Mustang Mach-e measures up to, arguably, its toughest competitor, the Tesla Model Y. The father-son duo pick apart the “Apple Macintosh and the PC of the car world in their new comparison video.

As the Mustang Mach-E GT and GT Performance aren’t available yet, the Youtubers used a Mustang Mach-e AWD that they were able to obtain on loan from the automaker. It was equipped with a standard battery pack and runs about $13,000 cheaper than their Tesla Model Y Performance. The duo compares everything from the door handles to frunks, apps, over-all design, driving impression, efficiency, pricing…the list goes on.

The son of the pair, Tommy, comes to the conclusion that the Mach-E is an all-around better car. However, when it comes to a better EV, the Model Y takes the cake with its advanced battery technology and Tesla’s charging infrastructure: “I think the Ford is an all-around better car, it feels better screwed together, it’s more comfortable and it’s easier to use than the Tesla. However, I’m not convinced it’s a better electric car.”

Tommy’s father, Roman is quick to point out that the Tesla Model Y is a much more fun car to drive, but the pair will need to test the Mach-e’s GT version before making a fair comparison. Check out the entire comparison in the full video below:
