GMC has confirmed that they will be developing another all-electric pickup truck along side the 2022 GMC Hummer EV. Although the company doesn’t have any confirmed plans of becoming a manufacturer of soley electric vehicles, its does have more battery-powered plans in the works.
According to Autoblog, the new electric mystery pickup was revealed by Missouri-based Buick–GMC–Cadillac dealership president Lynn Thompson who the Detroit Free Press: “There will be an all-electric Sierra pickup, but no timeline yet. But, the plan is to make it electric; this whole electric thing is a moving target.”
The news came during a national dealer meeting where Thompson confirmed GM executives already revealed plans for another electric pickup truck.
Autoblog noted the upcoming GMC Hummer EV will only be available as a four-door truck with a shorter bed. Perhaps this new all-electric Sierra pickup will take on a more traditional look with a smaller price tag than that of the Hummer EV. Very few details were given regarding the new electric pickup including whether or not it will share the Ultium platform found in the Hummer EV, and is expected to be utilized in several other upcoming vehicles.
As mentioned above, the company has no plans to go all-electric and GMC chief Duncan Aldred reiterated that to dealers. An anonymous dealer employee shared: “Duncan said we’re certainly not going to abandon our internal combustion engine vehicles because that’s our core business, and that was good to hear. It’s to let people know they’re not going down the same road as Cadillac.”
