Porsche Closes in on 20,000 Taycan Deliveries Before the End of 2020

Just last month, Porsche announced it was increasing production capacity for the Taycan after seeing strong demand. At the time Porsche stated that “more than 20,000 prospective buyers” signed up in a “Depositor programme”, but an executive said that 30,000 signed up to get a Taycan.

Needless to say, the difficulties brought on by the current global pandemic interfered with the electric sports car first full year of production. Regardless, Porsche has announced it is on track to deliver 20,000 Taycan before the end of 2020.

Porsche CEO Oliver Blume told auto motor und sport: “Despite the closure of dealerships and factories during the first corona wave, we will exceed our original target of 20,000 vehicles sold this year,”

With this statement, Blume suggests that Porsche plans to deliver quite a few Taycans in this final quarter of 2020. Porsche delivered around 4,500 Taycan units in the first half of the year. By the end of October, that number more than doubled, leaving Porsche to deliver upwards of 10,000 Taycan electric cars in November and December alone.

It is not an impossible feat, especially with help from the the largest automobile market worldwide, the Chinese market. The Chinese market has since recovered from the havoc wreaked on its auto industry and Porsche is able to sell a less expensive RWD Taycan in China.

Whether they do or do not hit the 20,000 delivery marker before the end of the year does not change the fact that the electric sports car has already been a huge success for the German automaker.
