Refreshed 2021 Kona Electric Unveiled with New Features

Today Hyundai unveiled its 2021 Kona Electric. The refreshed electric compact SUV has a new features along with a newly designed front-end.

Hyundai has already managed to deliver over 120,000 of the Kona Electric. With the success seen with the electric CUV, the Korean automaker did want to mess up a good thing. The refreshed Kona Electric still sits on the same powertrain with 39 or 64 kWh battery pack options as well as the same performance.

It comes a little longer than its previous version but is still the same CUV form factor. The newly designed front end is probably the most noticeable change in the refresh. According to the company: “The front with the new-look closed grille features a pure and clean design. This modern look is further enhanced by the new LED Daytime Running Lights, which emphasize the car’s wide stance.”

In addition to the changes to the front, Hyundai also updated the front headlights:

Along with the new designs, the electric CUV refresh is available with two-tone paint options offered in several new colors including Dive in Jeju, Silky Bronze, Shimmering Silver, Ignite Flame, Misty Jungle, Surfy Blue, Teal, Cyber Grey, and Atlas White.

As far as the interior, Hyundai wrote “For the first time, the new Kona Electric is equipped with a 10.25-inch digital cluster, while an optional 10.25-inch AVN screen is carried over from the last update. The AVN unit incorporates multimedia and convenience features including Bluelink®, Hyundai LIVE Services and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, further democratizing advanced connectivity for Hyundai drivers. Customers who select the eight-inch Display Audio system can wirelessly connect their smartphones to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.”

Additionally, several active safety features were added to its SmartSense suite with the refresh including Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA), Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA), Leading Vehicle Departure Alert (LVDA), Safe Exit Warning (SEW), and Rear Seat Alert (RSA).

The refreshed Kona Electric is expected to make its way to to dealerships in the near future.
