Electric Chevrolet Corvette: the Era of Electric Sports Cars is Closer than Ever

For years, brands like Ferrari have argued that sports cars should have a heart of gasoline in their guts, citing issues such as performance, range, or sound to defend the supremacy of this type of engine in high-performance vehicles. However, the dominance of this type of model is nearing its decline.

Electric thrusters are significantly smaller than thermal thrusters, offering instant torque for lightning-fast accelerations, and extracting power from them is much easier and cheaper. The best example can be found in the hypercar segment, which has seen the birth of real monsters such as the Lotus Evija, the Pininfarina Battista, and the Rimac C_Two, all of them with powers between 1,900 and 2,000 hp.

Continuous improvements in battery technology are enabling manufacturers to develop electric models with ever better performance and range. Without going any further, Tesla promises that its explosive second-generation Roadster, whose production will begin next year, will be able to exceed 621 miles of range in real conditions. What model in its category is capable of announcing such autonomy?

Electrification will not only affect hypercars, but even the most “mundane” models will also begin to transform in the coming years. Porsche has been developing a battery-powered version of the 718 (Cayman / Boxster) for some time. At the same time, Alpine and Lotus will collaborate on developing two electric replacements for the famed A110 and Elise.

According to a report citing internal sources from the American giant, a 100% electric Chevrolet Corvette will be launched in 2024. This model will complete the range of the current Corvette C8, which will also receive a plug-in hybrid variant a little earlier.

The electric Corvette, which could receive the trade name E-Ray, will become one of the leading exponents of the new General Motors, which wants to market exclusively 100% electric models by 2035. Essential data is unknown as its benefits, although possibly it is placed between the future versions of high-performance Z06 and ZR1.
