General Motors CEO Mary Barra is slated to speak about the automaker’s plans for electrification during the digital Consumer Electronics Show next month.
The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) will be live-streamed on January 12 at 9 a.m where Barra will give the opening keynote address and, according to anonymous sources, will explain why electrification is a necessary step towards environmental and societal change. GM President Mark Reuss will also speak about the carmaker’s EV strategy.
After the all-digital expo, GM is expected to show a video showcasing its latest technology as well as preview some concept vehicles, including a plug-in Chevrolet pick-up, some Cadillac models, and vehicles for other brands.
Bets are on a plug-in hybrid, but Chevrolet has kept details pretty hush hush for the CES concept. However, the automaker reassured that a coming electric pickup will utilize GM’s Ultium battery system.
Whether or not Chevy’s electric pickup concept will share the Silverado nameplate is unknown, but it will join GM’s first electric pickup, the Hummer EV, which is expected to go on sale late next year. Both pickups will go head to head against names like the Tesla Cybertruck, Rivian’s R1T, and Ford’s F-150 Electric.
In addition, GM is expected to announce several electrified Cadillac models, including the Lyriq crossover SUV which is slated to go on sale in 2022.
