According to Tesla CEO Elon Musk, other automakers are now “low-key” using Tesla’s Supercharger network. No specific names or details were given on the agreement.
Tesla has indicated they are open to the idea of sharing the Supercharger network with other automakers in the past. However, the issue of cost sharing is a big one and would need to be sorted out before any agreement was made.
Although this isn’t the first time we’ve heard rumors about such agreements, we now have confirmation from Elon Musk himself. Musk confirmed in a response on Twitter that other automakers have “low-key” taken Tesla up on the offer:
No names were given as to who the agreement is with or what it entails but he did confirm some automakers other than Tesla are using Tesla’s Supercharger network for their EVs.
Last year, Tesla introduced the CCS connector for its Supercharger stations in Europe. This will play a major role and make the integration of other vehicles much easier. In order to take advantage of Tesla’s Supercharging network, North American automakers will need to make the change to Tesla’s proprietary charge connector or have an adapter.
