Incentives and tax breaks are a huge factor when it comes to buyers looking to switch to electric mobility. It can be the make or break when deciding to ditch your ICE for a fully electric model. The state of California offers some of the biggest EV incentives you can find, and with the new “Clean Fuel Reward” they may get even better.
California electric utilities is teaming up with the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to offer the California Clean Fuel Reward (CCFR). A point-of-sale price reduction of up to $1,500 for the purchase or lease of any eligible new BEV or PHEV from participating automotive retailers.
According to CARB Vice-Chair Sandy Berg, “The goal of the program is to accelerate the number of electric vehicles on California’s roads and highways.” Berg continued “The instant point-of-sale price reduction of up to $1,500, along with other programs like Clean Cars 4 All, will help make these ultra-clean cars more affordable, especially for low-income families or those living in disadvantaged communities.”
In order to qualify for the maximum $1,500 reward, the BEV or PHEV must be equipped with a 16 kWh battery pack or higher. However, some current plug-in hybrids with smaller battery packs will be eligible for smaller rewards. Unlike most other incentives, the new CA Clean Fuel Reward is available upfront with $1,500 taken off the purchase price at the time of your purchase or lease.
