With all the buzz surrounding Tesla’s new Autopilot rewrite, a new video posted to the UK-based YouTube channel Tech Tekk an experiment shows how the Tesla Model 3’s traffic sign recognition system can be fooled with fake road signs while exposing some glitches in its system.
As it is already known, Tesla is working to develop a car that can completely drive itself with no human intervention. In doing so Tesla must develop a systems that is 100% foolproof. It is also no secret that Tesla and CEO Elon Musk have challenged people to hack its cars in exchange for information so they can focus on fixing the issues. However, altering road signs was probably not what they were expecting. If the technology is in fact reading the sign, when it is changed, the car is expected to change how it interprets it. Does this mean it is still technically doing its job?
Elon Musk has been very vocal about the “quantum leap” the complete software rewrite of Autopilot and Full Self-Driving Capability will be for Tesla vehicles. Most recently, Musk announced on Twitter that the company’s ‘Full Self-Driving Beta’ will be released to some customers as early as next week.
