Can the Ford Mustang Mach-E Stand Up to the Tesla Model Y?

According to Tesla itself, the Model Y is the model in its range with the highest sales projection for the future. Although the Model 3 is currently its most demanded vehicle (in fact, it is the best-selling electric car on the planet), the truth is that today SUV bodies are much more popular than sedans, which will play in favor of the newly arrived.

The segment to which the Tesla Model Y belongs (D-SUV or family SUVs) will be one of the most rapidly electrified in the short term, both by generalist manufacturers (Nissan Ariya, Skoda Enyaq iV, Renault Morphoz, Volkswagen ID .4) as well as premiums (Audi Q4 e-Tron, BMW iX3, Jaguar I-Pace, Mercedes-Benz EQC).

The truth is that both by price and approach, the Model Y will be straddling both worlds, being more expensive than the generalists but cheaper than the premium ones. Also, between two waters we will find the new Ford Mustang Mach-E, which will wear the insignia of one of the most famous sports cars in automotive history despite belonging to a generalist brand.

A few hours ago, Ford revealed all the Mustang Mach-E range details in the United States, including its prices and autonomies. The electric SUV will be available with five powertrains, the result of combining two mechanical configurations (rear-wheel drive or RWD, all-wheel drive or AWD) with two batteries (Standard Range 75.7 kWh, Extended Range 98.8 kWh).

The SR RWD promises a range of 230 miles EPA, priced at $42,895. The SR AWD will offer 210 miles EPA for $45,595, the ER RWD 300 miles EPA for $52,000, the ER AWD 270 miles EPA for $54,700, and the GT 249 miles EPA for $60,500. Subtract from this the $7,500 tax credit to which Tesla models are no longer entitled.

For its part, the Model Y is available in two versions: Long Range Dual Motor (326 miles EPA, $49,990) and Performance (303 miles EPA, $59,990). As you can see, the price/range ratio of the Model Y Long Range Dual Motor is more interesting than the Mustang Mach-E ER AWD… until the aid comes into play. However, we must not lose sight that Tesla will launch the Model Y Long Range RWD rear-wheel drive in the short term, which will offer a superior range and a lower price.
