Through an investment of €680 million, the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles (VWCV) operated Hannover plant is being transformed into a multi-brand site. The Hannover plant was already in the works for the production of the all-electric ID.BUZZ which is expected to roll off the production line in 2022. Now we are learning it will add even more BEVs to its production queue.
According to the company, VWCV will build a new production line at the plant with the €680 million ($807 million) investment. The new line will be a multi-brand manufacturing line for three fully electric D-SUV models.
The new BEVS were described by the German Manufacturer as “genuine flagship projects: premium, 100% electric and highly automated” that will enter production in 2024. Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, Dr. Carsten Intra stated “Our main plant in Hannover is becoming the production site for three completely new premium electric vehicles in the Group.”
Intra continued “These D-SUVs are genuine flagship projects: premium, 100% electric and highly automated. Today’s decision by the Volkswagen supervisory board is thus an important milestone for our high-tech site and a great show of faith in the productivity of our team. We were able to secure this decision in favour of our location with our assured efficiency and top level of production quality. My thanks are due today to every one of our colleagues whose work made this pioneering decision possible”
In addition to the 3 new fully electric D-SUV models, VWCV’s main plant will produce both conventional ICE and hybrid versions of its new Multivan starting in 2021.
