In an announcement today Mercedes-Benz revealed that the upcoming EQS model will have an unheard of WLTP range of up to 770 km (479 miles), according to the preliminary data.
Initially, the company said the EQS’s 108 kWh battery pack would allow for a single charge range of more than 700 km (435 miles), however we are now learning the final number might be higher.
According to the company: “The days of fearing about range are over once and for all! The new #EQS has an incredible preliminary range of up to 770 km, according to the WLTP.”
Whether or not the 108 kWh value is usable or total remains unknown, but these types of numbers mean the car will only consume about 140 Wh/km (226 Wh/mile) in the WLTP cycle.
The Mercedes-Benz EQS is underpinned by the all-new EVA platform for electric cars. That in combination with its large battery and aerodynamic shape, it is able to achieve such a high range.
The announcement comes on the heels of the luxurious interior reveal of the Mercedes-Benz EQS. Mercedes is expected to host a digital world premiere of the EQS on Thursday, 15 April 2021 at 6.00 p.m. (CEST).
Known specs for the Mercedes-Benz EQS are as follows:
-up to 770 km (479 miles) of WLTP range
-108 kWh battery (12 modules, about 9 kWh each)
-lithium-ion cells, NCM 811 chemistry
