Between the official photos and videos of Rivian’s upcoming R1T, seeing the all-electric pickup truck in the wild has been few and far between. Customer deliveries of the Rivian R1T are expected to start in June of 2021 but until then we will continue to wait for the EV startup to grace us with more details and videos of the vehicle and its performance. Luckily for us, a YouTuber and EV enthusiast was in the right place at the right time and happened upon what appears to be an R1T prototype.
The R1T pickup will be launched side by side with its all-electric SUV brother, the R1S. However, the R1T has been the more favored of the two although they’er essentially the same vehicle, aside from a slight difference in length and an open bed. However, we may see more differences depending on buyers customize their package/options. Some reports suggest that more than 60 percent of Rivian pre-orders were for the pickup over the SUV, and 90 percent of Rivian buyers are first time EV owners.Â
There is no official EPA confirmation, but the all-electric pickup is expected to have a 300-mile range. However, come 2022, larger battery packs will be added to the range, with smaller packs expected to be offered at some point as well. The most you can currently pay for an R1T is $98K, which includes the large (400+) battery pack.
