First Official Footage of Tesla’s New Semi Prototype in Action

After a drone flyover captured a Tesla Semi on a test track last week, we are getting to see the official footage from the EV giant. Although it may not be the exact same run, Tesla released a video of the new Tesla Semi electric truck prototype on its test track.

So far, there have been two other sighting of the new Tesla Semi prototype, which is believed to be the first Tesla vehicle equipped with the new 4680 cells. However, both sighting were on trailers, so the new teaser from the EV giant is the first time seeing the new prototype in action:

The new prototypes are expected to have been equipped with Tesla’s new 4680 battery cells and potentially Tesla’s new structural battery pack that was introduced during the automaker Battery Day event last year.

During its initial unveiling, the Tesla Semi was set to be available come 2019. It was late delayed and was expected to start “low-volume production in late 2020,” which as we know did not happen either. Tesla CEO Elon Musk told employees last summer that “it’s time to bring Tesla Semi to volume production” without adjusting its timeline.

Tesla Gigafactory Texas is expected to house the series production of the Tesla Semi, at least at first. There has been some speculation that Tesla is also preparing for production of the electric Semi at Gigafactory Nevada. Production of the Tesla Semi is expected to begin small volume production later this year, and may possibly see some deliveries before the year’s end.
