In a new filing by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) from October 1st of this year, it appears that Karma Automotive’s may be throwing its name into the electric pickup truck segment. The filing shared by RivianOwnersForum reveals Karma’s plans to produce a pickup truck as well as a coupe, a convertible, and two MPVs.
According to the filing, the MPVs will include a smaller crossover and larger SUV based on weight class. Although the filing appears to be legitimate, very few details were disclosed. Of the few details that were given, it is clear there are three engines and a battery-electric vehicle (BEV), including a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, a 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine, and a “new engine (TBD).”
The NHTSA filing mentions five specified product line and applies to Karma’s vehicles from 2021 to 2027. The five product lines include the Revero GT, 1 Series, 6 Series, 8 Series, and High Performance. Looking at the timeline it could be years before seeing some of these vehicles. However, with the race to see who will bring an electric pickup truck to the market first, Karma may make the decision to focus on that segment first.
