During Tesla’s Battery Day event, the California based company revealed the new highest performance version of its flagship sedan, the Model S Plaid.
The Model S Plaid will come with over 520 miles of range, a top speed of 200 mph, and can reach 60 mph in less than two seconds. The Model S Plaid was originally introduced last year when early prototypes were seen testing on several different racetracks.
With the Model S Plaid’s official unvieling, the automaker listed features for its new EV as follows:
-Quickest 0-60 mph and quarter-mile acceleration of any production car ever
-Acceleration from 0-60 mph: <2.0 s
-Quarter mile: <9.0 s
-Tri Motor All-Wheel Drive
Tesla briefly revealed the latest Model S Plaid prototype design:
Tesla is now taking orders for the vehicle via its website which shows a starting price of $139,990 before options.
As the Next Avenue reported last week, Lucid Motors dethroned the Tesla Model S Plaid prototype’s previous Laguna Seca lap time of 1:36.55 with its tri-motor Air. However, Musk said that Tesla brought the Model S Plaid prototype to the Laguna Seca racetrack this past weekend, and it was able to complete the track with a lap time of 1:30.
Although the Model S Plaid was originally expected on the market by the end of this year, Musk did confirmed it has been delayed to “late 2021.”
