Panasonic Converting Tesla Production Lines for New Battery Cells

According to vice president of battery technology at Panasonic Energy of North America, Panasonic is working on new battery cells for Tesla at Gigafactory Nevada.

As a part of its extra $100 million investment in Gigafactory Nevada, Panasonic announced cells produced at Gigafactory Nevada will receive up to a 5% increase in energy density and 10% increase in total output.

During a talk for Stanford StorageX International Symposium, vice president of battery technology at Panasonic Energy of North America, Celina Mikolajczak revealed more information regarding the new battery cells:

According to Mikolajczak, As of October 16, Panasonic has begun converting production lines at Gigafactory Nevada in order to produce the new cells. In addition to having 5% higher energy density, Mikolajczak  also revealed they have excellent fast charge performance as well. “Right now we are converting lines to increase energy density. It’s a great new cell that is going to be ready soon. It got excellent fast charge performance with that increased energy density which is really exciting.”
