With the launch of Lucid Motor’s highly anticipated Air only a week away, the company has released a new video of its electric sedan completing a quarter-mile run with a finish time of 9.9 seconds.
In the video the company shared, we see an Air production prototype beat a Tesla Model S Performance during a quarter-mile run. With a quarter-mile time that beats the Tesla Model S and an insane single charge range of 517 miles, the hype for the Air just keeps getting bigger.
In the release, Lucid stated “With up to 1,080 horsepower available in a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive package, the Lucid Air Dream Edition has achieved quarter-mile times as low as 9.9 seconds on a consistent basis, making it the world’s quickest production sedan. This performance is wrapped in an uncompromisingly luxurious package, offering room for five passengers with class-leading interior and storage space.”
Aside from the release of its insane range and quarter-mile time, the automaker has released information regarding the technology that helped achieve such accomplishments.
“Lucid’s line of powerful, compact, and ultra-efficient motors are combined with an integrated transmission and differential, as well as our high voltage, silicon-carbide MOSFET inverter, to create a state-of-the-art electric drive unit. Each unit packs over 650hp and can spin to 20,000RPM, yet weighs only 163lb (74kg) and is small enough to fit inside a standard airplane carry-on bag.”
The company shared a couple images including the electric sedan’s drive unit, inverter, battery pack, and an image of their bi-directional 19 kW charger, AKA their “Wonderbox.”
The official unveiling of the Lucid Air will be on September 9th.
