Volkswagen has started deliveries of the ID. Charger in Europe, a home charging point for low-cost electric cars. It can be purchased online or at the brand’s official distributors in eight countries. It will have a starting price of just 399 euros, a rather attractive rate that makes it an interesting low-cost option.
This home charger has been developed in parallel to the new family of ID electric cars. Volkswagen’s first member will be the compact ID.3. However, the wall box can be used to charge electric vehicles with a Type 2 outlet. The price does not include installation, but the brand claims to have partnered with certified electrical contractors.
“In the past, buying a home charging point was a long and exhausting exercise for customers. We want to change that by offering a unique solution with the ID. Charger: from purchase and installation to commissioning,” says Peter Diekmann, Volkswagen Elli’s Key Account Manager.
Thomas Ulbrich, a member of the Board of Directors of the Volkswagen brand responsible for electric mobility, adds: “Volkswagen is also setting new standards for charging […]. We will build a full charging ecosystem around ID.3 in the coming months. To ID. Other charging services will follow the charger. In the future, charging an electric car should be as clear and straightforward as charging a smartphone.”
In addition to the essential ID.Charger, IDs will also be available. Charger Connect and ID. Charger Pro will be priced at 599 euros and 849 euros, respectively. The three models will allow charging to 11 kW in alternating, so there will be no changes from one to the other related to the charging speed, focusing the differences on aspects such as connectivity.
Thus, the two most expensive variants will allow you to control the charging process remotely, manage access using a card integrated into our smartphone, receive regular software updates, etc. Also, the Pro model will add an integrated meter that can be used to bill electricity costs to drivers in a company.
