The SUV category will be one of the first to be electrified on a massive scale in the coming years. Ford Mustang Mach-E, Hyundai IONIQ 5, Nissan Ariya, Skoda Enyaq iV, Tesla Model Y, Volkswagen ID.4… The list is long and growing every day.
The latest firm to join this trend has been MG, which has just presented the European version of the Marvel R Electric. This 4.67 meters long SUV replaces the previous Roewe Marvel X EV sold in countries such as China and will be positioned as MG’s flagship within its European range, in which we also find the MG ZS EV and MG5 Electric.
The MG Marvel R Electric boasts the corporate design philosophy “Evolution Design,” with C-shaped optics embedded in a front without a grill and crossed from side to side by an LED strip. In the lateral line, the air intake (probably false) located in the front wing and the retractable handles should be highlighted. At the same time, in the rear, the prominence falls on attractive triangular pilots attached to the gate’s width.
We find a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and a monstrous 19.4-inch touch screen in portrait format that allows you to control the infotainment system in the cabin. This gigantic display runs from the base of the central air conditioning system vents to the central armrest.
The range of the MG Marvel R Electric will be greater than 248 miles. You can charge 11kW of power in the alternating current; Besides, it will also have fast charging in direct current, recovering 80% of its range in just 30 minutes. The air conditioning system will have a heat pump that will improve its performance at low temperatures.
Like other next-generation electric cars, the Marvel R will have V2L technology, allowing for charging external electrical elements. There will be two types of powertrain: one consisting of two engines (both on the rear axle, being rear-wheel drive) and another for three (one on the front axle and two on the rear, which will provide you with all-wheel drive). The latter will have a power of 288 hp (212 kW) and a torque of 665 Nm, doing the 0 to 50 km/h in 1.8 seconds and the 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds.
The car will be able to tow up to 750 kg, while its trunk will produce cubic 357 liters expandable to 1,396 liters with the rear seats folded down. The rear-wheel-drive version will add a 150-liter frunk. In the equipment section, the MG Pilot should be highlighted, including numerous active safety assistants.
