Tesla Semi Seen and Heard on the Road in CA

A Tesla enthusiasts who was at the right place at the right time was lucky enough to capture a Tesla Semi prototype accelerating after a left-hand turn.

The prototype was spotted at a stoplight on a road in Fremont, California. After making a left-hand turn the driver seemingly presses on the accelerator pedal, showing some impressive acceleration not typically seem from a Class 8 semi truck and trailer. This isn’t the first time we have seen examples of Tesla Semi acceleration, but it always comes as a little bit of a shock.

The Tesla Semi without the trailer has a claimed 0-60 mph of around 5 seconds, which outperforms a lot of passenger cars. With a full load, it has a claimed 0-60 mph of up to 20 seconds.

The Tesla Semi is powered with 4 independent motors on rear axles which account for the distinct sound found in typical EV powertrains. According to the company’s website, the “safest truck ever” will be equipped with “enhanced Autopilot which helps avoid collisions, a centered driver position provides maximum visibility and control, and a low center of gravity offers rollover protection.”

Tesla again reiterates that “every driver is responsible for remaining alert and active when using Autopilot, and must be prepared to take action at any time.”
