Volkswagen has just presented the Chinese versions of the ID.4, which unlike in Europe and the United States, will be split into two variants: ID.4 Crozz and ID.4 X. While the first will be a model produced by the company joint Volkswagen-FAW, the second will be the work of Volkswagen-SAIC, two of the joint ventures that the German firm has in the country.
While the ID.4 Crozz is broadly identical to the European ID.4 known for a few weeks, the ID.4 X has new optics, pilots and bumpers, modifications that give it a differentiated personality, and in general more aggressive lines. . These changes make it about 20 millimeters longer than its brother.
Although there are not too many differences, the center console of ID.4 X has received some modifications. However, both the interior dimensions and the mechanics of both vehicles are identical, so the differences focus exclusively on the stylistic plane. What will be the favorite of Chinese buyers? In the coming weeks, we will be without doubt.
The Volkswagen-FAW ID.4 Crozz will be produced at the joint plant in Foshan, while Volkswagen-SAIC will manufacture the ID.4 X in Anting. At the moment, the technical specifications of the models have not been revealed. However, we should not expect too many differences compared to their western brothers (therefore, surely both the Crozz and the X have 52 kWh and 77 kWh batteries, as well as all-wheel-drive variants).
On the other hand, Volkswagen-SAIC has also presented the e-Tharu, the Tharu SUV’s electric variant. This model is based on the MQB multi-energy platform instead of using the MEB of the ID.4, specifically for electricity. The Tharu is a kind of Chinese version of the Tiguan with a differentiated aesthetic and influenced by the Atlas/Teramont.
