With about two more years until the production of the ID.4 at VW’s Chattanooga factory in Tennessee, a new video posted to the Volkswagen USA News Youtube channel shows the new VW electric crossover prototype testing in the U.S.
The European ID.4 has already been in preproduction since August in Germany, and the Chinese version is most likely not far behind. However, the North America version needs to complete the development process first since it will differ quite a bit.
For instance, it will get battery cells from SK Innovation in Georgia instead of LG Chem in Europe. With this, the odds of it getting other components from different suppliers is highly likely.
The North American ID.4 will also be set specifically for the local market’s needs. Its setup will differ in aspects such as suspension, brakes, tires, and performance. As mentioned above the ID.4 will be produced in Chattanooga, Tennessee for the North American markets and will likely go on sale in late 2020 or early 2021.
