New Images of the First Electric Car from Genesis

Genesis, the Hyundai group’s premium brand, will launch its first electric car on the market next year. This model, known internally by the code name “JW EV,” will make use of the advanced E-GMP modular platform, dedicated exclusively to electric cars. This architecture will also be used by the production versions of the Hyundai 45 EV Concept and Imagine by KIA Concept.

Suppose the model finally shares specifications with its Hyundai brother. In that case, we will find two available battery packs (one of 58 kWh and the other 73 kWh) capable of giving a range up to 310 miles. Possibly both packs use cells from SK Innovation.

On the other hand, the Genesis should also receive the 800 volt electrical system of its group brothers, which will allow it to access ultra-fast loads of 400 kW of power in direct current. This will translate into waiting times of just 12 minutes to recover 80% of its range, a reference within the sector.

Now, the Genesis JW EV has been caught for the first time in heavily camouflaged testing. Like the 45 and Imagine, the model will be a midsize crossover with a long ride, ample wheelbase, and a sharp drop in the roof. Aesthetically too many conclusions can not be drawn beyond the presence of the optical groups divided into two typical sections of other Genesis.

According to the prototype’s spec sheet, it will have an all-wheel-drive, although it is not clear if it will be optional or standard. The model is expected to begin mass production in June 2021, with an initial production of about 22,000 units per year expected (although possibly increased later).

The JW EV will be accompanied in the short term by other electric models within the Genesis range, with both electric versions of the GV70 (SUV) and G80 being confirmed. Unlike the JW EV, which will be a dedicated electric car, its two brothers will be derived from thermal models.
