Porsche Taycan: A Cheaper Version with Rear-Wheel Drive

The Taycan family has grown with the arrival of a new version. After the Turbo S, Turbo, and 4S, it is the turn of an access version designed for those who want to enjoy an electric Porsche, but do not need the enormous power or autonomy of the highest-end models.

This version has been presented in China and will have the dry Taycan denomination. It will have a propulsion system with a single-engine that will be located on the rear axle, simplifying a powertrain that will significantly reduce its power.

As we remember, the Taycan Turbo S is capable of reaching 60 mph in 2.8 seconds. The turbo version leaves the clock in 3.2 seconds, while the most earthly 4S does it in 4 seconds. Now the new version of access will go the clock in 5.4 seconds, which gives us a sign of the enormous reduction in power.

There was a lot to learn about the autonomy that this version would have. On paper it should not undergo changes in the battery capacity which will be the basic one, with 79.2 kWh. Allowing it to achieve a range of 257 miles under the NEDC cycle.

We can compare this figure with those achieved under the same cycle by one of its main rivals, the Tesla Model S. In its Long Range version it achieves 410 miles in the Chinese cycle.

Regarding its price, the new Taycan will cost in China, its first market, 888,000 yuan, 125,404 dollars in exchange.

In exchange, customers will take a very differentiating model, with a beautiful appearance. A model intended, according to the manufacturer, for a type of public that lives mainly in large cities and those who do not need extensive autonomies or four-wheel drive.
