Mercedes-Benz EQS will Arrive in 2021 with a Carbon-Neutral Footprint

Mercedes-Benz will launch the EQS in 2021, its 100% electric vehicle. The brand has shared a new snapshot of the camouflaged model as a preview. They have also announced that, like the Volkswagen ID.3 and ID.4, its electric flagship will have a carbon-neutral footprint.

The vehicle will be manufactured at Sindelfingen, and all of its production (including its batteries, the supplier of which is still unknown) will be carbon dioxide neutral. Also, Mercedes-Benz has announced that it has a goal of making all its cars and vans carbon-neutral emissions manufactured by 2022.

The Mercedes-Benz EQS will debut a dedicated electric modular platform (the EQC and EQV derive from the thermal GLC and V-Class, while the EQA and EQB will do the same with the GLA and GLB). This will allow maximizing the interior space thanks to a longer wheelbase, shorter overhangs, shorter nose, front windshield, etc.

The model, whose production will begin in the autumn of this year, will hit the market next year with a powertrain consisting of two electric motors (one on each axle, which will give it all-wheel drive) with a total power of 469 hp (350 kW) and a torque of 760 Nm. Its batteries will have more than 100 kWh of capacity and will provide it with a range of around 435 miles.

At the moment, it is unknown if the vehicle will have a 400-volt electrical system or if it will be 800 volts. This would allow it to access ultra-fast direct current loads. Some media speculate that it may have an AMG sports version with superior performance and a specific tuning.

The model will hit the market at the same time as the new generation of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Its thermal equivalent will have numerous plug-in hybrid variants. Like its combustion counterpart, the new EQS could feature Mercedes-Maybach’s super-luxury versions.
