Waymo is shutting down their self-driving autonomous vehicle services because of the recent pandemic; the company confirmed this information on Friday.
The Google sister company had already stopped part of its services that required a human to pilot the car last week. With the recent news, all services are out. The fully autonomous rides were taking place in Phoenix as a pilot program for user hailing and food delivery. The news comes right after the recent States shutdowns and Stay in Place orders around the country.
Waymo is not the only one that has paused their autonomous rides services. Cruise, Uber, Pony, and others have taken the same decision. Others may follow suit.
