In-Road Charging Test for Trucks Successfully Done

A Swedish road was the place chosen to be the first in-road charging for the electric trucks test, and it was successful.

Back in November 2019, the project began with the name “Smartroad Gotland” because of the island with the same name, where the installation of charging equipment got done. The system connected the airport road to the town of Visby.

Along the way, the truck was able to charge, even while driving at the speed up to 18mph, and the system charged the truck at a rate of 45 kilowatts. This is the first time that wireless charging of a moving vehicle on the road works successfully. Now the Smartroad Gotland plans to increase the charge rato up to 125 kW.
