Rivian is undoubtedly one of the startups focused on the creation of today’s most promising electric cars thanks to the exciting features of its R1T and R1S models. These are planned to go on sale next year. The company’s philosophy of creating “electric adventure vehicles” separates it from other companies and gives it a unique character that many have valued very positively.
The Rivian R1T and R1S will be sold with three battery packs: one of 105 kWh, another of 135 kWh, and a last one of 180 kWh. Thanks to them, the pick-up (R1T) will reach 370 km, 480 km, and 640 km of autonomy under the American homologation cycle EPA, known for its realism. The SUV (R1S) for its part will homologate with the same packs 390 km EPA, 500 km EPA, and 660 km EPA.
Both models will be based on a platform designed by Rivian equipped with “two-story” batteries and four electric motors, one per wheel. This technology, called Quad-Motor, will allow both vehicles very high motor skills in off-road driving.
This technology will also give other types of advantages to both models. The best example is found in the “Tank Turn”, a function that allows them to turn by themselves. This maneuver is executed by putting the engines on one side to turn in one direction and the other on the other, which causes the car to turn within a radius of zero meters as if it were an excavator.
