Today Mercedes has presented the first lines of a new proposal that departs from the dictatorship of SUVs. It will involve the launch of a new platform that will allow launching a compact model designed for those looking for a wide-space electric alternative.
According to Mercedes, the T-Class will adapt to families’ needs and those looking for a leisure vehicle. A compact and efficient proposal in size that can be adapted to the transport of people. From Mercedes, it has also been emphasized that the objective is to put on sale a practical alternative and at a more affordable price.
A T-Class that will be developed in collaboration with the Renault-Nissan Alliance will mean relaunching an agreement between the two groups that was sealed 10 years ago now. It will allow Mercedes to access synergies taking advantage of the electrical technology of Renault and Nissan.
This will mean launching a model that will be placed by size below the V-Class, which would suppose a model with a size of about 4.6 meters long, and that almost certainly will be based on the third generation of the Renault Kangoo ZE.
In the absence of official confirmation, it is expected that the T-Class will feature a powertrain similar to that of the newly revealed Renault ZOE Z.E. 50, with a 100 kW (136 hp) motor, a 52 kWh battery, and fast charging in direct current at 50 kW power (CCS Combo 2 format). All with the autonomy that should be around 120 miles.
At the moment from Mercedes, no details have been given of the new model, which will hit the market in the first half of 2022, meaning Mercedes will have up to 11 100% electric vehicles in its offer.
