In the midst of a global pandemic, the coronavirus forced virtually every auto plant in North America to close. It even contributed to the cancellation of Rivian’s partnering with Lincoln. Although a little behind schedule, Rivian continues to stay focused on executing its existing projects, including the R1T. Rivian has resumed testing the electric pickup truck in Arizona. In a video uploaded to the Rivian YouTube channel we see the R1T tackle off-road obstacles including serious rocks, drifting, loose dirt, and impressive tank turns that will make your head spin. It wastes no time unveiling the R1T’s reported 750 horsepower, which is said to give it a 0-to-60 time in as little as 3 seconds.
The video gives us an idea of how extensively Rivian is testing the upcoming truck. On the heels of the Ford F-150 reveal and news about the Ram TRX reveal, the R1T is starting to look like a very worthy competitor.
We can only assume this is just a taste of the R1T’s SUV-bodied sister model, the R1S, which will most likely be just as capable as the R1T. The future of EV trucks is very exciting and this video could be just the beginning considering all the possibilities of modifications and upgrades to come.
