Popular car YouTuber TheStradman has explained why he’s decided “join the smuggery” and add a Tesla Model Y to his ever-growing collection of vehicles.
he Tesla Model Y releases in March 2020 and is based on the Model 3 sedan platform, albeit a little chunkier than its predecessor.
It’s somewhat of a middle-ground between the Model 3 and the Model X, cars that TheStradman has been vehemently against throughout his time on YouTube. But, he may now be changing his mind on Elon Musk’s brainchild, after placing a preorder for one despite his previous rants against Tesla and their “smug” owners.
The Tesla Model Y was first announced in March 2019.
Stradman, grinning as he explains what’s going on, says “Boys, I’m doing it. I have made fun of Tesla owners and their smuggery and their silly license plates for so long, and now I’m joining the smuggery.”
Opting for the Performance edition, the purchase price comes in at $60,990 before selecting customization options, which is definitely on the more affordable end of the scale as far as Tesla products go. However, after adding auto-pilot and black and white interiors to the vehicle, it costs a total of $68,990.
Explaining why he’s opting for the Model Y – and not the Rolls Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe like he wanted – Stradman says that his dog, Oskar, drools so much, that getting a Rolls Royce as his “daily driver” might not be the best choice. As such, the brand new Tesla model is a perfect fit for his pup.
While buying a new Tesla may seem a little excessive in this scenario, it does make sense: after all, if you’re going to spend money on a car such as the Rolls Royce Phantom, you really don’t want the interior ending up covered in drool.
The Rolls Royce usually costs upward of $250,000, which makes the $70,000 cost of the Tesla Model Y look absolutely meager in comparison, especially when it will mainly be used to get Oskar from A to B.
He also explains that while he’s getting the Model Y for now, it will be a good introduction to electric cars before his Tesla Cybertruck arrives in 2022 – and possibly a Tesla Roadster in the meantime.
