BYD Han EV Arrives as the Chinese Rival of Tesla Model S

BYD is one of the most important international Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers. Although in markets like the European or the United States at the moment, they are known above all for their electric buses. In their home country they have a wide range of plug-in and 100% electric hybrid cars.

The BYD Han EV configured as a direct rival for the Tesla Model S. The vehicle is 4.95 meters long and has an excellent aerodynamic coefficient (Cx) of 0.23. It will be for sale this summer in China with two mechanical options: 100% electric (Han EV) and plug-in hybrid (Han DM).

At the moment, most technical data of the new model have not been revealed. What has been revealed is the fact that the plug-in hybrid variant will use a turbocharged 2.0 petrol engine, being available in versions of front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive (the latter will be able to do 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, an outstanding figure for a car of its kind).

Taking into account that the Tesla Model S is still affected by the tariffs imposed in China on vehicles manufactured in the United States (unlike the Model 3, it will not be produced in the Gigafabrica 3 of Shanghai). The new BYD Han EV may steal numerous sales in the largest electric car market in the world if… its technical characteristics are shown up to par.
