Hyundai Wants to Produce Flying Cars

Hyundai Motor Group has announced the creation of a new division dedicated to air vehicle development, which will be led by former NASA engineer Jaiwon Shin.

The division led by Shin will aim to develop “core technologies and innovative solutions for safe and efficient air travel.” Given Shin’s experience with aeronautics projects while at the US space agency, Hyundai is expected to take advantage of the upcoming air segment.

Hyundai believes that as cities grow in size and numbers, air traffic will be one of the solutions to reduce vehicle congestion on the ground.

Flying cars are Hyundai’s second futuristic bet in the short term: Last week, the South Korean company created a new company, with the American Aptiv, to have autonomous cars on the market in 2022.
