Delphi Announces a 800V Inverter

In an announcement during the Frankfurt Motorshow, Delphi Technologies announced the production of a 800-volt inverter.

The company will supply carmakers with this new tech.

Nowadays, the voltage used is usually a 400V system. Inside an electric vehicle the inverter changes the ‘direct current’ (DC) from the battery to ‘alternating current’ (AC), used on the motor system.

According to Delphi, a $2.7 billion deal for the production of the inverter will come to the eyes of the public in 2022. This reveal will come alongside the launch of a “high- performance vehicle.”

Delphi’s new tech has silicon carbide MOSFET semiconductors from a company called Cree. They specialize in the subject. The product is 40 percent lighter and 30 percent more compact than other inventers on the market.
