During an interview John Rich, the executive of Ford, talked about his thoughts on the future of Autonomous Vehicles.
Talking with Telegraph, the Operation Chief said why he thinks autonomous vehicles that have been trending lately won’t last long. The reason is not that the cars aren’t good enough, but because they will be worn out.
“The thing that worries me least in this world is decreasing demand for cars. We will exhaust and crush a car every four years in this business. (…) Every shred of evidence we’ve seen says that as you drive down the cost per mile, the miles traveled goes up. You start to help underserved populations, you start to move a lot more people.”
The self-driving cars are not as popular as regular vehicles yet, but as soon as they start to take over the market it is likely that the predictions by Rich will be correct.
Let’s see how Ford behaves if such needs come to the market.
