On a reply on Twitter, Elon Musk said that around the end Q4, Tesla will probably change the self-driving chips on older versions of the company’s vehicles.
The chip, FSD, is the first to have been designed by the company itself. It offers 21 times the performance of the Nvidia ones, which were the ones used before.
The new feature has been used in Model S, X, and 3 cars for some time now, but will also be used by older Tesla cars. Elon Musk estimates around half a million.
The upgrade will be offered for free to owners who have paid for the “Full Self-Driving” package, which costs $6,000.
