If you have more than 25 years of age, It’s very likely that you had (or have, I’m not judging) a Blackberry device. Before the iPhone got the crown, RIM, the Canadian phone maker was known to have the best mobile software. Then the touchscreen came and the BB’s are on the edge of extinction. This week, they signed a deal with Ford that might save the company and might give Tesla even another competitor.
This deal is for the software that is going to run on the first generation of Ford consumer ready self-driving cars. Blackberry (former RIM), Announced that is selecting a team that it’s reason is to aid the car manufacturer to achieve their goals with this new vehicle.
Raj Nair, executive VP of product development and chief technical officer at Ford Motor Company said, “With the success of our SYNC 3 system globally, which is based on the BlackBerry QNX operating system, we understand the importance of the connected-car experience to our customers. Growing our expertise, experience, and use of the BlackBerry QNX embedded software platforms will help ensure we deliver the high-quality, highly secure experience that our customers expect.”
Ford already said earlier this year that it has plans to ship 100,000 self-driving cars a year for ride-sharing by 2021. The year 2025 is when they are going to sell them for regular costumers.
