Autolist.com made a new poll to find out the preferences of shoppers when it comes to pickup trucks. The survey was done with over 1,100 consumers that have an interest in buying a new car. They had four different options; Ford’s next-gen all-electric F-150, the still unreleased General Motors electric pickup, Tela’s Cybertruck, and R1T from Rivian.
The survey found out that people that have never owned a truck before would choose the Cybertruck over all other choices.
- Tesla Cybertruck: 25.8 percent
- Rivian R1T: 24.8 percent
- Ford F-150 Electric: 24.7 percent
- GM Electric truck: 24.7 percent
On the other hand, the same question was asked to people that own or have owned a pickup truck before. 23% chose the Rivian R1T and only 14% cast their votes to the Cybertruck. However, both lag behind the models from GM and Ford, respectively.
- GM Electric truck: 35 percent
- Ford F-150 Electric: 28 percent
- Rivian R1T: 23 percent
- Tesla Cybertruck: 14 percent
“What this tells us is that the upcoming Rivian and Tesla trucks can coexist on the market as newcomers without cannibalizing sales from one another…
…The Rivian can appeal to a more traditional truck buyer looking for something fresh, while the Tesla can appeal to those new to the segment looking for a more performance-based model.” said Chase Disher, an analyst at Autolist.com
The Cybertruck lines are very controversial, some love it, others hate it. According to this study, the lines on the R1T please more than it’s competitors.
What can we take from all this? The electric pickup war has just begun and appears that it’s going to be a long one.
