The EZ-1: Renault’s First Vehicle Under its ‘Mobilize’ Mobility Brand

A new report from automotive news outlet Autocar shows a brand new two-seater city car from Renault called the EZ-1 prototype. The ultra compact EV has a design that is reminiscent of the automakers two-seat microcar, the Twizy.

CEO of the Renault Group, Luca de Meo, presented the “RENAULuTion” today. A new strategic plan that seeks to change the French company’s focus from volume, to profitability, and the EZ-1 aims to be the first car Renault will launch under it. A plan that includes looking to develop vehicle hardware, software, and other services, including car charging, financing, and subscriptions.

The Mobilize business venture is intended to help lead Renault’s efforts to break into new mobility, energy and data-related services. It will focus on developing hardware, software, and services like car charging, subscriptions, and finance schemes.

The EZ-1 is a lightweight vehicle that stretches just 2.3 meters long and is made of 50% recycled materials. It has full glass doors in order to boost visibility and is capable of battery swapping to allow for a longer life. Once the EZ-1 is no longer usable, the automaker revealed that 95% of its parts are recyclable.

To enable keyless access and app-based renting, The EZ-1 will also connect to your smartphone.
