There’s no question the Model S has the most appealing exterior design in the entire Tesla lineup, despite being the oldest of the bunch. To be fair, though, that’s not saying a lot considering the only other S3XY model that’s not a sore on the eye is the much more affordable Model 3.
The smaller sedan had to be kept in check or it would have cannibalized the sales of its larger sibling, so giving it a relatively bland exterior appearance was probably part of the solution. That meant the Model S kept its beauty pageant tiara on its head during its eight years long life with little to no challenge
People like to call the design of the Model S ‘timeless’ but ask anyone in showbiz over 40 and they’ll tell you there’s no such thing. Granted, the clean lines of the EV mean it doesn’t look out of place next to any other comparable model, but that doesn’t mean it hides its age that well.
Perhaps it’s just that we’ve become too accustomed to its appearance, especially if you consider it’s only got a mild makeover since its 2012 launch, but it does feel like the time has come for a change. Redesigning the car that essentially put Tesla on the map is going to be a daunting task for the company with great implications, but independent designers have no such sword hanging over their heads.
One such example is Giorgi Tedoradze, an industrial designer from Georgia who likes to come up with various car renderings for everyone’s delight. One of his latest creations is this next-gen Tesla Model S that’s largely had a good reception, and that’s probably because it focuses more on the sedan’s impressive dynamic characteristics than its family-friendly nature.
It’s not hard to imagine the next Model S looking a lot like Giorgi’s creation, even though it probably has a bit too much of a European flair about it for an American product. Even so, it still manages to retain the most important Tesla design cues meaning there’s no mistaking it for anything else, even without seeing the badges.
Like Giorgi (and probably a lot of you out there), we too are curious to see the second-gen Model S. However, the replacement doesn’t seem to be on the table for the next two years at least, with Tesla focused on bringing both the Semi and the Cybertruck on the market first, and possibly the Roadster as well. That being said, it wouldn’t be the first time Musk unexpectedly pulled something out of his hat, so don’t write it off just yet.
