Last year, Mercedes had a preliminary presentation of what will be the second member of the EQ family of electric cars. After the EQC, it will now be the EQB’s turn. A somewhat more compact proposal, which will go into direct battle with the Tesla Model Y, Jaguar i-Pace, or Ford Mustang, and will begin deliveries in early 2021.
At the moment, Mercedes has not shown the final design that the EQB will have. But the British magazine Autoexpress has published a preview made by its designers. This allowed us to look at an approximation of what the most economical and compact EQ will look like at the moment.
As we can see, the final appearance will not differ too much from the design of the combustion engine model on which it is based, the GLB. Only the front area with that characteristic blinded grill will help to differentiate that we are facing the 100% electric variant.

Among the aspects that are expected to be confirmed is the question of interior space. As we remember, the GLB has up to seven seats. Something that would equip the EQB in a very familiar SUV, setting itself apart from the competition.
The EQB will be more affordable than its older brother thanks to the use of a battery of about 60 kWh. With this it will reach around 400 km WLTP of autonomy (although the arrival of more capable packs is not ruled out). Its traction will be in the front wheels in the basic versions, giving up the all-wheel drive as standard on the EQC and “settling” with a power of about 204 hp (150 kW).
One more proposal that will expand the possibilities of those who in 2021 want to make the leap to an electric car. Where the offer will be increasingly wide and varied, and the competition increasingly fierce.
