Porsche has officially unveiled the production version of its Taycan Cross Turismo which will enter production later this year. The upcoming EV will come with a starting price of $90,000.
The Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo is based on the Mission E Cross Turismo which was presented in 2018. The new model uses Porsche’s electric formula and put it into something slightly larger and more practical.
After receiving much positive reaction to the concept, the German automaker decided to bring it to fruition in 2018 and planned to bring it to market in 2020. Unfortunately 2020 was a rough year for many, and the project was later pushed to 2021.
As you can see, the new EV stays true to both the design of the Taycan as well as the Cross Turismo concept. With a longer, flatter roofline the new Taycan Cross Turismo is able to offer its drivers and passengers more room.
When getting right down to the nitty gritty, there’s about 0.35-inch of extra headroom in the front and 3.62 inches for the backseat. However, that’s not all the space the Taycan Cross Turismo has to offer. The new EV has up to 15.7 cubic feet more cargo space, and up to 42.8 cubic feet when rear seats are folded down:
With its new freed up space, the Cross Turismo is seemingly a more practical vehicle than the Taycan, however, that may not be the only instance the Cross Turismo is more practical.
It sits about 20-millimeters (0.78 inches) higher than the Taycan which can actually be lengthened through the standard air suspension. The German maker is definitely dipping it toes into something new and is even offering an “Off Road Design Package” that adds additional body cladding and raises the ride height an additional 10 millimeters (0.39 inches).
Of course the Cross Turismo wasn’t actually designed to be taken off-roading, but you could if you wanted to. Even if dips and valleys are one less things to worry about when driving to the family cabin, its a plus!
The Cross Turismo is equipped with a powertrain that uses the same 800-volt system found in the Taycan, enabling similar version specific performance. All versions will feature dual-motor all-wheel drive and two-speed rear transmission. The 4 version the upcoming crossover will be offered in are as follows: Taycan 4 Cross Turismo, Taycan 4S Cross Turismo, Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo, Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo
According to the automaker, the Turbo S version is capable of achieving a 0-60 mph time in just 2.7 seconds, just shy of the Taycan which can do the same in 2.6 seconds.
As for the other three version, we see a steady drop in acceleration with the Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo completing a 0-60 mph in 3.1 seconds, the Taycan 4S Cross Turismo in 3.9 seconds, and the Taycan 4 Cross Turismo in 4.8 seconds.
No officials EPA range has been released yet, but we are hoping it is close, if not the same to its slicked cousin which has an official EPA rated range of 200 miles.
