The Hyundai Kona Electric is one of the zero-emission SUV crossovers that has been a bestseller for the Korean manufacturer, completely selling out all its production in recent years.
Despite the good numbers of this SUV, which has given excellent results in the tests carried out by FCE, from Korea comes news of the cessation of sales of the Kona Electric in its home market.
The electric SUV has staged some fires in Canada and Korea that have ended with scorched vehicles. On the other hand, some brake problems have been reported that have led to the revision of thousands of units.
Problems with the burning units have prompted a recall for software updates and battery replacement after conducting the necessary inspections. The total number of vehicles to be reviewed is 25,564 cars built between September 2017 and March 2020.
In addition to problems with the zero-emission SUV, Hyundai has also recalled a total of 50,864 Kona Electric and Nexo fuel-cell cars in South Korea due to defects found in their electronic braking systems.
From Hyundai, there is no confirmation that the suspension is due to the problems found and neither that it is due to the imminent arrival of the IONIQ 5, the first car of the Korean manufacturer made with an exclusive platform for zero-emission vehicles that will be the starting point of the electrical offensive of the Koreans.
