As a result of the events and since the specifications of the vehicles exported to China, in terms of suspensions, are the same as those sold in the United States, the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) is studying the problems in the front suspension of the cars that make up the high-end range represented by the Model X SUV and the Model S saloon.
Despite showing its rejection of the Chinese authorities’ decision, Tesla finally agreed to revise 30 thousand of its electric cars sold in China. Still, all of them were manufactured in the factory in Fremont, California.
In the case of the Model X, this new investigation adds to the recall of 9,000 SUVs caused by the loss of roof elements during traffic.
The “preliminary assessment” of the US agency focuses on the alleged defect that could affect almost 115 thousand cars sold in the country between 2015 and 2017.
Faced with the problems contained in the People’s Republic of China, Tesla defended itself against the accusations by holding the owners of the Asian market liable for carrying out ‘driver abuse, including that the use of the driver and the expectation of damages are severe in the Chinese market. If the customer produces an abusive overload (for example: impact on the sidewalk, serious pothole hit, etc.).’
The reference by NHTSA qualifying this investigation as a preliminary evaluation means that the purpose of the procedure is to evaluate the alleged defect’s frequency and consequences.
