In an interview for Auto Motor and Sport the CEO of Porsche, Oliver Blume, discussed the future of electric cars. Specifically the matter of range and charging.
During his talk, Oliver Blume first positioned where the new Porsche Taycan enters the market. According to him there is no real intention to compete with the Tesla Model S, which is their main rival.
“As the manufacturer of the 911, the focus of the Taycan is mainly on sporty driving,” he said.
With both sports cars competing on race tracks, it could be easily understood that they might be competing. However, the CEO actually stated to have great respect for Elon Musk. According to him, without the significant innovations and technological features brought by Musk and his carmakers, the scenario of EVs would not look like it does today.
Oliver Blume also said, in close to 10 years EVs will have a range of 620 miles on a single charge, while the tech for charging it will be as fast as we know today on gas-fueled vehicles.
Tesla is already one of the leaders of this race since the plans are to launch a second-generation version of the Tesla Roadster. According to the carmaker, there will be a battery of 200kWh capable of feeding a 620-mile range, and an acceleration of 0-60 mph in less than 2 seconds.
